Cucumber is a common vegetable in daily life. It is full of nutrients and beneficial for health. But why is cucumber, obviously of green color, nevertheless called yellow cucumber?<\/p>\n

An Internet user posted this question on Facebook \u201cI have been perplexed for years by this question. Why is hu\u00e1nggu\u0101 called hu\u00e1nggu\u0101 but not l\u01dcgu\u0101? Some on the Internet answered seriously, \u201cBecause it becomes yellow when it is ripe\u201d, \u201cIts flowers are yellow\u201d. But a number of others answered jokingly with questions such as \u201cThere is no moon in a mooncake\u201d, \u201cNo wife in a wifecake\u201d, \u201cNeither can you find the sun in a suncake\u201d.<\/p>\n

As a matter of fact, hu\u00e1nggu\u0101 was originally called h\u00fagu\u0101. It was brought back to China by Zhang Qian after his diplomatic mission to Central Asia. The founder of Hou Zhao Dynasty Shi Le was of the Jie Tribe. It is said that he was resentful of Jie People being called by Han people \u201ch\u00far\u00e9n\u201d, so he strictly prohibited without any exception the usage of the word h\u00fa in neither spoken nor written language. Those who violated this order would be decapitated. Since then, h\u00fagu\u0101 has been called hu\u00e1nggu\u0101.<\/p>\n

En realidad hu\u00e1ngu\u0101 originalmente se llamaba h\u00fagu\u0101. Fue tra\u00eddo a China por Zhang Qian de su expedici\u00f3n diplom\u00e1tica a Asica Central en la dinast\u00eda Han. El fundador de la dinast\u00eda Hou Zhao Shi Le era del tr\u00edbu Jie. Dicen que \u00e9l se molestaba oir a la gente H\u00e0n llamando a la gente Ji\u00e9 \u201ch\u00far\u00e9n\u201d, por eso prohibi\u00f3 estrictamente sin ninguna excepci\u00f3n el uso de la palabra \u201ch\u00fa\u201d ni en el habla ni en la escritura.
